Internship
The APP Secretariat is looking for a resourceful individual to support the research, drafting and production of its annual 2011 Africa Progress Report, as well as the fortnightly Bulletin. The candidate will be required to perform research covering a wide range of issues including governance, economics, climate change, development and partnerships for development.
Core tasks
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct research and assist with the collection of relevant information for the 2011 Africa Progress Report;
- Assist in the compilation of information for the fortnightly Bulletin
- Other tasks as required
Education
Minimum of three years university studies, ideally a first degree, in international relations, political science or social science or a field related.
Skills and competencies required
- Good research, analytical and organizational skills;
- Excellent written and spoken English, same in French is an advantage;
- Sound knowledge of economic, governance and development issues;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to take initiative and work to deadlines;
- Basic computer literacy with common software packages including Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
Desirable skills
- Experience in research and drafting reports
- Knowledge of specialized computer programmes (graphic and statistical packages; databases).
- Working in Africa or on African development issues
Reporting and contractual arrangements
- Answerable to the APP Head of Research;
- Four-month contract; Available immediately
